Pray for me I was once like you.
Be kind and loving to me that's how I would have treated you.
Remember I was once someone's parent or spouse I had a life and a dream for the future.
Speak to me, I can hear you even if I don't understand what you are saying. Speak to me of things in my past of which I can still relate.
Be considerate of me, my days are such a struggle.
Think of my feelings because I still have them and can feel pain.
Treat me with respect because I would have treated you that way.
Think of how I was before I got Alzheimer's; I was full of life, I had a life, laughed and loved you.
Think of how I am now, My disease distorts my thinking, my feelings, and my ability to respond, but I still love you even if I can't tell you.
Think about my future because I used too.
Remember I was full of hope for the future just like you are now.
Think how it would be to have things locked in your mind and can't let them out. I need you to understand and not blame me, but Alzheimer's.
I still need the compassion and the touching and most of all I still need you to love me.
Keep me in your prayers because I am between life and death.
The love you give will be a blessing from God and both of us will live forever.
How you live and what you do today will always be remembered in the heart of the Alzheimer's Patient.
The Butterfly
The beauty of the butterfly is like LOVE.
It brings sunshine into your heart even on a dreary day.
It takes us places that we have never seen.
The beauty of the colors is awesome to see.
It gives your spirit wings as we see it fly free.
As we watch it floating in the air we would like to hold it close to us and never let it go.
But we know that if we do we will crush it's wings and it will never fly free again.
So we have to let it go and keep that Love in our hearts each day.
The help we give to someone or share will come back to us. In a blessing and we will have more to spare.
So on the wings of the butterfly let your love go and set it free to fly new heights.
Remember to give the love that you have in your heart for the butterfly to someone today.
It will return to you one day and bring you much delight.
Time
TIME is a word you hear people say I will do it tomorrow no TIME today.
But the day slips away and before you know it we are Old and TIME has shown it.
We look as if we have nothing but TIME.
We put off things we have in our mind because we think we will have TIME another day.
But TIME slips away and we get nothing done.
Then we wonder where has the TIME gone.
We think back and wish we had TIME to say all the things in our heart that we thought that day.
But before you know it's another new day, And still had no TIME to say to our loved ones the words will never be heard we meant to say.
Because we thought we had TIME to do it another day.
We wake up one day and find we have no TIME tomorrow is to late, do it today.
TIME, my friend, waits for no one they say so be ready before TIME slips away.
Before you know it comes a brand new day, and still there will be no TIME
Recipes For Forever
Gather all of the ingredients together,
so that they are close at hand!
Get a clean cloth and wipe the bowl clean of any lingering *dust* from the past.
Take MATURITY, RESPECT, and FRIENDSHIP, and stir gently.
Add unlimited amounts of COMPASSION and KINDNESS, and mix well.
To this, add CARING by the handfuls, and fold in TRUST.
Continue stirring gently, adding LISTENING, HONESTY, and large amounts of COMMUNICATION.
Slip in some DREAMS, GOALS, and firm pieces of KEEPING PROMISES.
Bake in a home filled with PEACE, BEAUTY, and SERENITY.
Before you taste the finished product, sprinkle liberally with PATIENCE, LOVE, and a touch of SPICE.
Serve very hot, with IMAGINATION on the side.
A Friend Is Someone To Behold
A friend is someone to behold,
to laugh with and chat with, when warm or cold,
someone to comfort you when you're blue
to talk about the old and new.
One has many acquaintances in life,
but when there is sorrow or strife,
a friend is someone who will understand,
to lend an ear or a helping hand.
It matters not where you are,
whether you are near or far,
around the world or across the street,
a friend is someone we like to meet.
So when life's little troubles get you down,
try to smile, do not frown,
turn on the computer, or pick up the phone.
With friends, you are never alone.
Those Who Love You
If anyone should hurt you,
And say a thing unkind.
Remember what I tell you,
And keep these things in mind.
For every one who makes you cry,
There are three who make you smile.
And a smile will last a long, long time,
But a tear just a little while!
If someone says a thing that's cruel,
Don't let it get to you.
There's so much good about you,
And your faults are very few.
So if a certain someone,
Should act a certain way.
Just think of those who love you,
And don't let it ruin your day.
Don't let someone who hates the world,
Cause you to hate it too.
For behind the clouds is a golden sun,
And a sky that's bright and blue!
Life is a journey through many terrains,
From gardens of pleasure to deserts of pain.
From an ocean of love to a jungle of hate,
From mountains of glory to canyons of fate.
There's a highway for joy and a highway for sorrow,
A road for today and a road for tomorrow.
So choose your path wisely and walk it with care,
If you follow your heart, you'll find your way there.
I've been to the garden and planted seeds there,
I've been to the desert and felt the despair.
I've swam in the ocean and drank of it's wine I climbed up the mountain to touch the sky,
I went to the canyon and started to cry.
I've travelled the highways, both today and tomorrow,
I've basked in the joy and wallowed in sorrow.
My Path has been chosen and I've walked it with care,
I followed my heart and I'm on my way there.
So I'll just keep walking till I find what I'm after,
To mountains and oceans and gardens of laughter.
I Like to Walk with Nana
I like to walk with Nana, she takes small steps like mine.
She never says, "let's hurry-up!, she always takes her time.
I like to walk with Nana, her eyes see things like mine. Shiny stones, a fluffy cloud, stars at night that shine.
People rush their whole day through, they rarely stop to see. I'm glad that God made Nana's unrushed and young like me!
Words to Live By
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey. So he invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.
At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw.
With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!
Moral: Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up.
Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.
Life isn't about keeping score.
It's not about how many friends you have
Or how accepted you are.
Not about if you have plans this weekend
or if you're alone.
It isn't about who you're dating, who you used to date,
how many people you've dated,
or if you haven't been with anyone at all.
It isn't about who you have kissed,
It's not about sex.
It isn't about who your family is
or how much money they have
Or what kind of car you drive.
Or where you are sent to school.
It's not about how beautiful or ugly you are.
Or what clothes you wear, what shoes you have on,
or what kind of music you listen to.
It's not about if your hair is blonde,
red, black, or brown.
Or if your skin is too light or too dark.
Not about what grades you get, how smart you are,
how smart everybody else thinks you are,
or how smart standardized tests say you are.
It's not about what clubs you're in
or how good you are at your sport.
It's not about representing your whole being on a piece
of paper and seeing who will accept the written you.
Life just isn't those things
Life is about who you love and who you hurt.
It's about who you make happy or unhappy purposefully.
It's about keeping or betraying trust.
It's about friendship, used as a sanctity or a weapon.
It's about what you say and mean,
maybe hurtful, maybe heartening.
About starting rumors and contributing to petty gossip.
It's about what judgments you pass and why.
And who your judgments are spread to.
It's about who you've ignored
with full control and intention.
It's about jealousy, fear, ignorance, and revenge.
It's about carrying inner hate and love,
letting it grow, and spreading it.
But most of all, it's about using Your Life to touch
or poison other people's hearts in such a way
that it could have never occurred alone.
You, and only you,
choose the way those hearts are affected,
and those choices are what life's all about.
